2024/25 Argentina Corn 65.8% Planted, Up 10.2% for the Week

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Argentina received some rainfall last week across central growing areas which boosted the soil moisture in Cordoba with spotty dryness remaining in Santa Fe and Entre Rios. Below normal rainfall is expected across Argentina for the next 15 days. Temperatures for the period are expected to be above normal, but extreme heat is not expected.

If the hotter and dryer forecast verifies, moisture stress could start to develop as the crop's water demand increases. The subsoil moisture was not recharged in most areas, so the crops are going to be highly dependent on timely rainfall going forward.

Corn is 65.8% planted, which represents an advance of 10.2% for the week. In the core area, the corn is approximately 90% planted with 75-90% planted in southern areas and approximately 10% planted in far northern Argentina. Approximately 27% of the early planted corn is pollinating under generally good conditions with a high yield potential.

The corn is rated 2% poor/very poor, 52% fair, and 46% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage is down 6% from the prior week. Soil moisture for the corn is rated 9% short/very short and 91% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is down 3% from the prior week. Below is the corn rating in Argentina for December 18, 2024 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
